The Scott Avenue design-build project located in the heart of downtown Tucson plays a key role in Tucson’s pedestrian circulation. Site amenities such as wide sidewalks, storm water harvesting, street trees and furnishings, public art opportunities and gateway features were included.
Unique Features:
Coordination with roadway engineers and the development and documentation of passive water harvesting features. The Scott Avenue Gateway depicts the history of Scott Avenue. Interpretative anodized aluminum panels with photographs and text provide an overview of
the historic buildings and events.
The sculptural shape reflects the traditional basket carrying method of the Tohono O’odham women. The ceramic tile planter depicts the woven basket presented as a gift from the Tohono O’odham Nation to the Temple of Music & Art during the 1927 opening ceremonies.
Responsibilities:
Water Harvesting Design and Construction Documentation in collaboration with City Engineers. Design, Construction Documentation & Construction Administration of the Gateway feature. With Wheat Scharf Associates.
