With Dr. Merle Jensen providing horticultural oversight and Martin Yoklic as facility manager, the Solar Oasis located in Tucson, Arizona serves as an international model for urban desert living. The outdoor facility demonstrates integrative solutions for both biological and urban environmental
problems through the use of outdoor cooling systems, urban agriculture, aquaculture and water hierarchal use systems.
Unique Features:
Urban Agriculture demonstrating Sand-Culture Agriculture, Aquaculture and Passive Cooling Technologies.
Responsibilities:
Cultivation of fruit, vegetable and flower crops, variety trials, development of alternative growing systems appropriate for the desert environment and weekly educational tours of the Environmental Research Laboratory facilities.
