Luminarias del Pueblo Project

Journeys of

A heart

Art

Public

Public Art commissioned by Tucson Pima Arts Council for Luminarias del Pueblo Project.

Dedicated to my Mother.

‘Journeys of a Heart’ represents a spirit’s eternal journeys. The spirit, symbolized by a winged-heart, is depicted traveling over four elements; earth, fire, water and air. Each side of the pedestal represents one of these elements: earth is represented by a dendritic pattern of a tree as seen in plan view; fire depicted as flames; water illustrated as a waterfall; and air portrayed as the Milky Way.

The concept of ‘Journeys of a Heart’ is enhanced through the use of two lighting effects; an ‘inner-glow’ and ‘up-lighting’ accent on the winged-heart. Solar powered LED’s provides a night presence.

The pedestal is constructed of angle iron and 14- gauge sheet metal with an anchoring system. The pedestal designs were fabricated using various techniques; cutting, drilling, forging, etc. The wings and heart are hand forged from a salvaged water tank.

The overall height of the sculpture is 6’-6”+ from the base to the highest point of a wing. The overall width (the wingspan) is 4.0’+. The pedestal is 18-inches square at the base tapering to an approximate 9-inch opening at the top.
